Thermocouples are temperature sensors that work based on the principle of Seebeck effect, which states that when two different metals are joined together at one end, a voltage is produced at the open circuit end, which is proportional to the temperature difference between the hot and cold junctions.
Type B thermocouples are made of a platinum-rhodium alloy (PtRh30-PtRh6) for the positive leg and a platinum-rhodium alloy (PtRh6-PtRh30) for the negative leg. The temperature range for a Type B thermocouple is approximately 0°C to 1820°C (32°F to 3308°F).
